The McMaster University Faculty of Health Sciences wishes to thank Dr. Gerasimos Kambites (McMaster MD Alumni, Class of 1981) for the generous donation of his recent book Tears onthe Equator – Muzungu. An autographed copy of his book was given to each of the 205 first year medical students in the Michael G. DeGroote School of Medicine (Class of 2018) during their white coat ceremony previously held on October 13, 2015 in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.

An Ontario doctor and retired Orthodox priest has written a book about living and working in Africa in the early 1980’s. In "Tears on the Equator," Gerasimos Kambites tells the story of raising a church, medical clinic, school and a family in Uganda against the backdrop of political oppression, civil war, and the AIDS epidemic. It's an autobiographical tale of spiritual and physical struggles on an equatorial African island.Born in Montreal, the third generation Greek-Canadian has written for National Geographic, reported for UPI and worked as a documentary videographer.

Gerasimos Kambites joins the Orthodox Speakers Bureau, where he will use his knowledge in Theology, Psychiatry and Medicine, along with his slides from National Geographic to share the stories of his life, and the teachings of the Church.

Ottawa International Byzantine Art Symposium, September 28
Author Gerasimos Kambites presented world renowned iconographer Dr. Georgios Kordis with a copy of Tears on the Equator at the Opening Exhibition
of the Ottawa International Byzantine Art Symposium which was curated by Lesia Maruschak of Studio IKONA.
The well attended opening exhibition premiered the limited edition archival
series of Dr. Kordis' Festal Icons.
Book Signing/Wednesday, September 24 - Author Gerasimos Kambites attended the Ladies of Ottawa Book Club where he answered questions and signed advance copies of Tears on the Equator which the book club has read and will review.
